Lead Belly Society
Dedicated to Sean Kileen 1942-2003
Sean Killeen established the Lead Belly Society in the early 1980s. He published wonderfully informative newsletters. There were articles he wrote and articles contributed by Lead Belly fans and admirers from all over the world.
Sean Killeen was a wonderful friend to me. Without him, The Leadbelly songbook: "Lead Belly, no stranger to the blues" would not exist. He has given his time and effort willingly and was the best source of primary research on Huddie Ledbetter.
I am proud to be on the advisory board of the Lead Belly Society. One of its main purposes is to demystify Huddie Ledbetter. For too long, the sensational and show biz hype of John Lomax, and Alan Lomax, Lead Belly's earliest producers, have dominated the descriptions and source of biographical information about Huddie Ledbetter
Sean Killeen has provided the readers of the Lead Belly Society with many hard earned facts about Ledbetter and his life. He has also provided a forum for those thousands of people who have been fascinated by this man and his music. Some new facts have proven Huddie Ledbetter, the man. far more interesting than the one of myths.
